Creative Summit: Writing Pain, Moments and Fragments
Sat 21 Oct 2017 to Sat 21 Oct 2017
This is the first event of the AHRC-funded project Translating Chronic Pain based at Lancaster University. Limited places still available.

25 people together, including academics, pain charities and people living with chronic pain, will come together to explore how short-form creative writing may support people living with chronic pain, raise awareness, and enhance healthcare training.

Confirmed participants include: representatives from charities Pain UK, Pain Concern and A Way With Pain; creative writers Jenn Ashworth (Lancaster) and Laura Joyce (UEA); graphic novelist and physician Ian Williams; photographer and academic Deborah Padfield (Slade); Peter Watson (Canada) and Anthony Jones, (Professor of Neuro-Rheumatology, Manchester).

Through talks, collaborative workshops and a written worksheet, we will collaboratively explore the value of ‘flash’ illness writing, and blends of text and artwork/photography. Insights from the event will inform a ‘Creative Manifesto’, to underpin the creative work throughout the grant project.

Limited spaces still available. Travel and accommodation bursaries are also available for two additional people who have experienced persistent pain, either now or in the past.
