Food and fairy tale creative writing workshop
Wed 6 Aug 2025 to Wed 6 Aug 2025
Use illustrations and imagery from the cultural heritage collections available on Europeana.eu to explore fairy tales and food, from hunger and longing, to challenge and transformation. Write in any language. No experience necessary.

Poisoned apples, magic porridge pots, peas you can feel through 20 mattresses, and of course that fantastic gingerbread house - food plays a significant role in literature, and fairy tales are no exception.

In this creative writing workshop, we'll use illustrations and imagery from the collections available on Europeana.eu to explore fairy tales and food, from hunger and longing, to challenge and transformation.

We’ll do some gentle warm-up exercises and free-writing to spark inspiration and get the words flowing, and then we’ll delve into some longer prompts to give you the chance to explore your own ideas.

By combining practical writing exercises with a supportive writers’ circle feel, you’ll achieve great things in the session and leave with tools, resources and ideas to keep the stories coming.

You can write in any language. There is no obligation to share your work. No experience is required. Come and enjoy an hour of creativity!
