Haringey Literature Live: Story Development for Screenwriters with Yousaf Ali Khan
Calling all budding scriptwriters! We are very excited that twice Bafta-nominated director Yousaf Ali Khan is coming to teach at the Writing Room. His courses are called 'Blank Canvas' because they're designed for people with no previous experience, and no particular single idea for a script, to explore what stories they might tell in film.
You can sign up to a 6-week story-development short script course, or to a one-day masterclass, looking at how a feature film script would be structured. Both these options would work brilliantly together.
‘Blank Canvas’ is a Director-led workshop that takes participants on a journey of discovery; shaping the stories we all have within us. Twice Bafta nominated director Yousaf Ali Khan, alongside writing and directing, has taught Acting for the Screen at Mountview; worked with Hi8us Productions on participatory drama for young people and is a story consultant for drama and creative documentaries.
The workshops will be divided into 6 project-based elements:
• The creative contract
• The short story arc
• The beat sheet
• The slugline
• The outline
• The script
This work is based on beginning with a blank sheet of paper and a wish to develop a short film script from scratch. It is not a workshop for developing existing projects.
