Irish Writers Centre: The Craft of Documentary Storytelling with Brendan Culleton & Irina Maldea (Online)
Thu 18 Jun 2020 to Thu 23 Jul 2020
The course is designed to provide the participants with the tools to create compelling stories and to reach and engage their audiences. It will cover the different styles and modes of documentary storytelling from the beginning until the present.
It is suitable for emerging writers; established writers in different genres interested in docs, and those with a strong interest in a subject that they feel could make a documentary.
The participants will learn through lectures, case studies and exercises, where they can work on their own projects with mentoring from the tutors.
An award-winning documentary maker of many years standing, Brendan Culleton teaches documentary studies at the National Film School, IADT. He acts as a consultant for the main European film funding institutions and is industry expert at markets around Europe.
Irina Maldea’s films have received many IFTA Award nominations, winning best documentary for the feature documentary “Congo”. Her work spans feature film and documentary. She is lead tutor at the industry section of the Astra International Documentary Film Festival and a guest lecturer at IADT.
