“I sing the body electric!” – Walt Whitman During this workshop with experienced freelance tutor and poet Geraldine Green, we’ll look at three or four poems by published poets, including Billy Collins, Vicki Feaver, Jane Hirshfield and Anne Stevenson, written in response to the body. Writing prompts will be given, including some based around the selected poems.
‘Poems about the body are often poems of celebration and awe, poems that delight in the body's mysteries, its "dream of flesh", poems that wonder at the body's remarkable capabilities—the hands, bones, face, eyes, brain, arms, genitals, and, of course, the heart, that "ragtime jubilee," as Yusef Komunyakaa calls it.’ Mark Strand
