Little Books of Stories: Make Inspiring little pocket books using textiles, art and writing with Melinda Schwakhofer and Barbara Bloomfield
Sat 26 Mar 2022 to Sat 26 Mar 2022
Want to meet interesting people and learn more about slow-stitching and writing for wellbeing for mental health and creativity? Come and join counsellor and author Barbara Bloomfield and textile word artist, Melinda Schwakhofer for this all day workshop in Bristol which is about creating simple little books that inspire you.

They are so light and easy to store in your pocket and pull out whenever you need uplift or good advice.

Melinda is a textile artist who creates pocket books from scraps of fabric, an old typewriter and stitches the whole into mini works of art. Barbara is a writer and counsellor who wants to help you to tell little stories from your life - to keep for all time or to give as presents to others. Take your little journey books with you on the train, perhaps, to while away the time?

Melinda: Through my personal artistic journey and work as a counselling psychologist, I have found that making art really does help to process whatever is going on in one’s life. My approach is to provide a safe space where people can gently explore their creativity and benefit from a positive impact on their wellness. As well as teaching techniques, I invite people to go beneath the surface and get in touch with their inner selves. It doesn’t matter whether you’re any good at sewing or being ‘arty’. Everyone is creative in some way. Art heals.

Barbara : With my background in counselling, training and teaching creative writing, I try to provide a bridge between the two, working with you to tell your truest stories and to inspire you. I have been a relationship counsellor and author for 26 years and taught creative writing to BA level at Bath Spa University after taking my MA there. I've written five non-fiction books and scripts for radio.
