London Lit Lab: How to Write Commercial Fiction with Anna Freeman (Online)

Writing is an art, and there will be aspects of your novel that are yours alone; your voice and style, the personal experiences that creep into fiction. This eight-week online course aims to take those aspects of your work and offer you techniques to build a commercial framework around them, to turn your passion project into a page-turner.
We’ll look at narrative structure, effective editing, deepening character, and techniques for suspense building. We’ll also cover how to write an effective action scene (notoriously difficult to do well!) and how to set up those big scenes early in the story for maximum impact.
The writing techniques offered in this course will apply to all types of fiction. We'll look at how they can be applied to work from the most lyrical slow-build novel to the most action-packed.
You are welcome whether you have a complete novel you’d like help in editing, or you’re wondering where to begin. Either way, we’ll help you build all the tools you need to write a page-turner, a book your reader won’t want to put down.
This course is eight weeks long and asynchronous (so you can log in and add to the discussion whenever you want) with weekly ‘windows’ of when you should read assignments, upload your work or offer and receive feedback.
