Moniack Mhor: Fiction - Finishing Your Novel with Ross Raisin and Kim Sherwood, Guest Reader Ron Butlin
Mon 5 Feb 2024 to Sat 10 Feb 2024
Reaching the end of your novel can feel like an uphill climb after running a marathon. This week will provide you with the map, compass and headlamp you need to get it done, helping you find your way and illuminating those tricky stumbling blocks.

Through a series of workshops – targeted to help you redraft from a fresh perspective, edit with purpose, work out where revisions might be necessary, hone your character arc and your story structure – together with one-to-one consultations with your tutors to discuss the particulars of your own work, this course will provide you with the productive space, encouragement and expert know-how to spur you to the finishing line.

Ross Raisin is the author of four novels: A Hunger (2022), A Natural (2017), Waterline (2011) and God’s Own Country (2008). His work has won and been shortlisted for over ten literary awards. He won the Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year award in 2009, and in 2013 was named on Granta’s once a decade Best of Young British Novelists list. In 2018 he was awarded a Fellowship by the Royal Society of Literature. Since 2010, Ross has taught an in-demand 6-week fiction course for the Guardian Masterclass programme; he also teaches at the University of Leeds and, as a writer-in-residence, for the education charity First Story.

Kim Sherwood is an author and creative writing lecturer at the University of Edinburgh, where she lives in the city. Kim Sherwood’s first novel, Testament (2018), won the Bath Novel Award and Harper’s Bazaar Big Book Award. It was longlisted for the Desmond Elliot Prize and shortlisted for the Author’s Club Best First Novel Pick. In 2019, she was shortlisted for The Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year Award. Her second book, Double or Nothing (2022), is the first in a trilogy commissioned by the Ian Fleming Estate to expand the world of James Bond. Her latest novel is A Wild & True Relation (2023).
