National Centre for Writing: In Full Bloom: Garden-Inspired Writing with Gail Harland
Wed 9 Jul 2025 to Wed 9 Jul 2025
Gardening is one of life’s great pleasures — calming, rewarding, and endlessly inspiring. In this hands-on workshop led by horticultural writer Gail Harland, you’ll discover how to bring your love of gardens to life on the page.

Through a series of sensory writing exercises, you’ll use sight, smell, touch, and sound to craft vivid, descriptive prose. You’ll handle real flowers — examining, pulling apart, and breathing in their scent — to explore language that captures nature’s richness.

Gail will also guide you through a fascinating journey into the cultural history of gardens, touching on their place in art, music, textiles, and sculpture. Finally, you’ll reflect on your own emotional connection to gardening and how it can deepen your storytelling.

This workshop is open to writers of all levels.

Date: Wednesday 9 July 2025, 10am–12.30pm
