New Writing South: Emotional Truth with Yvvette Edwards
Tue 7 Apr 2026 to Tue 7 Apr 2026
There are the facts of what happened and then there is the emotional truth. Your emotional truth is what you felt about a situation and sometimes has nothing to do with the facts. Using real life experience as our springboard, this workshop will explore the often complex and layered emotions beneath the facts. Part of First Tuesday Writers.

It will help to make your writing a more immersive experience for your readers through the creation of more authentic emotional depth. Part of First Tuesday Writers.

Yvvette Edwards is a British writer of Montserratian origin and author of A Cupboard Full of Coats and The Mother. She has written a variety of short stories which have been broadcast on radio and published in anthologies, including New Daughters of Africa. Her work has been nominated for a number of literary awards including the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize and the Booker Prize. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
