Get ready to laugh your socks off and learn the secrets to crafting hilarious jokes and side-splitting stories.
Are you curious about writing a sitcom, comedy sketch or funny skit, but don’t know where to start? Led by award-winning dark comedy scriptwriter Hugh Dichmont, learners will explore the foundations of writing funny things for theatre, audio and screen, whilst exploring their creativity.
Throughout the day we will spend time on a different aspect - joke, theme, character, setting, structure, action, genre, form, tone and editing - and a range of other topics including how to get inspired, and how to find your unique comedy-writing voice.
This workshop will be delivered through discussion, in-class writing exercises and pair work, in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. By the end of the day, learners will aim to have written a ten-minute comedy script they can be proud of and have an opportunity to share their creations with the group.
