Online Writing for Children Course with Alan Durant
Mon 6 Apr 2020 to Mon 15 Jun 2020
I’ve been running regular courses on writing for children in London, Brighton and France for The Guardian, Penguin Random House and my own too for several years now. They’ve been successful and really enjoyable, but, of course, there are many people who haven’t been able to attend for geographical reasons. So, I’ve devised an online course that anyone anywhere can participate in!

This course is ideal for anyone who thinks they would like to write for children but may not know for sure which age-group would most suit them. Or maybe they know but aren’t sure how to get started.

Or they just need a bit of inspiration and informed advice (I’ve had over 100 books published: my most recent picture book Quill Soup was nominated for the Kate Greenaway Medal and my most recent Middle Grade novel Clownfish was nominated for the Carnegie Medal).

This is also a perfect follow-up for anyone who has been on one of my in-person courses.

The course runs for ten weeks through a dedicated, password-accessed website with five separate downloadable modules covering ideas and content, characterisation, structure and plot, settings and style.

The modules will carry a mixture of information, practical advice and writing tasks. There will also be some useful video content and regular opportunities for chat within the group, as well as some feedback.

The next course will start on 6 April 2020 at a price of £100 ($130).
