Ready to develop your playwriting and take your work to the next level? Our 9-month Foundation Course for playwrights begins in October 2026 and runs through to late June 2027, offering a focused, supportive environment in which to strengthen your craft and grow your confidence as a writer. Don’t miss this opportunity to join a small, committed group of playwrights and make significant progress in your writing.
The aim of the Foundation Course is to provide writers with the key tools required to develop a dramatic script. The major focus in every session is how to write a ‘dramatic’ scene.
The course is led by Renata Allen who has considerable experience of theatre as a professional writer, dramaturg, actor and director. Other professional practitioners - writers, directors and designers - will attend certain sessions to provide their unique perspective. In addition, professional actors will be invited to read aloud current work in progress. This will climax in a day-long performance workshop that encompasses every writer's script.
The course consists of ten all-day sessions (10.30am – 6.00pm) running between October 2026 and June 2027. Places are limited in order to create a small group so that each individual gets time for significant feedback as they develop their scenes and ideas in the afternoon session. The course takes place in a large, light and airy room
above Vincent’s, an Oxford University club, in the centre of Oxford.
