The Character of Place – Jeremy Hughes (21 – 28 July 2018)
For creative writers who wish to explore the ways in which ‘place’ can be interpreted and presented in their own work, whatever discipline with which they are engaged. This will be a highly practical exploration of a variety of sources and writing tasks.
Scriptwriting: From Pitch to Screen – Carl Schoenfeld (28 July – 4 August 2018)
The course includes an introduction to screenwriting, discussing key concepts, techniques and procedures of the writing process and its application in case studies. Students are expected to develop both their industry knowledge as well as their own creative project.
Creating Character – Dr Jonathan Miles (28 July – 4 August 2018)
Most stories, films and plays have characters. This writing workshop explores different ways of approaching and building rounded, interesting, recognizable but not cliché-ridden characters. The course is intensely practical and will be taught through class exercises and discussion. We shall work in several different literary forms.
Being Creative with Love – Jeremy Hughes (28 July – 4 August 2018)
Love is fundamental to our everyday lives, and can make us strong or vulnerable, happy or maudlin. Whether you are a poet, novelist, memoirist or playwright, we shall explore the plethora of ways the notion of love and its expression can be realised.
