PhD Supervisors' Discussion Café Series - Launch event
Wed 14 Jan 2026 to Wed 14 Jan 2026
The purpose of the PhD Supervisors' Discussion Café is to create an informal peer to peer environment for supervisors - both academic and non-academic - to be able to (a) share best practice in PhD supervision, (b) crowd-source ideas and solutions to challenges, and (c) network. We're holding an online launch event on the 14th January 2026, 12noon-1pm.
Our sessions will be held online, on a bi-monthly basis, and are open to all PhD supervisors from across SHAPE and STEM disciplines.
This first event will introduce the PhD Supervisors' Discussion Café series with a short intro, followed up a 10-minute talk on how to steer a student without getting too involved, then a 15-minute discussion open to all, then 15-minutes of break-out room time to meet some other supervisors, then a round-up to gather input on topics you would like to discuss at future events and how to sign-up to get more involved.
This will be an informal, cross-institutional space for learning and sharing at all levels of experience, as well as somewhere to start conversations about the sector and what more could be done to benefit students, supervisors (academic and non-academic), universities and society as a whole.
We're all ears for ideas, advice, input and questions - we want this to work as well as possible for as many people as possible, so if you have an hour to join us, we'd really welcome your time and support in starting this exciting new endeavour.
