Poetry School: The Portable Generator
Sat 17 Nov 2018 to Sat 17 Nov 2018
Join this intensive writing day with acclaimed novelist and Faber poet, Joe Dunthorne. By the end of this workshop, you will definitely have a handful of surprising, new poems. You may even like them. Come, underachieve with me!

In this workshop, we will read great poems and then try to write better ones. We will use a variety of different catalysts as a way to approach new work: A poem that emerges from the ‘random page’ function on Wikipedia; a poem written using dialogue overheard on our lunch break; a poem that only uses one vowel. We’ll be taking inspiration from poets like Holly Pester, Frances Leviston, Don Paterson and Hera Lindsay Bird.

Joe Dunthorne’s debut novel, Submarine, was adapted for film by Richard Ayoade. His second, Wild Abandon, won the 2012 Encore Award. His latest is The Adulterants. A collection of his poems, O Positive, will be published by Faber & Faber in 2019.
