Poetry Spa Day at the Poetry Pharmacy - celebrating wellness through poetry...
Welcome to the first Poetry Spa at the newly opened Poetry Pharmacy. Enjoy a wonderfully inspiring day devoted to poetry with the 'Emergency Poet' Deborah Alma, Suzannah Evans author of Near Future and former Poet Laureate of Birmingham Roz Goddard in these fabulous surroundings. Presented by Nine Arches Press and the West Midlands Readers’ Network; supported by Writing West Midlands.
Receive a free copy of Near Future, Suzannah's darkly humorous, inventive doom-pop poetry collection as part of your ticket price and prepare for friendly discussions, absorption in poetry, a writing workshop and glorious afternoon tea.
Start the day gently with a spell of both silent and shared poetry reading. Join a small group of other bookish people to experience the benefits of concentrated reading in conducive surroundings. Bring your own text or borrow on the day, we'll provide plenty of choice.
This will be followed after lunch by a 'Future Poetry' writing workshop with Suzannah Evans.
The human imagination is a perfectly adapted future simulator and in this workshop we'll be harnessing our future anxieties in the form of poems - making predictions, looking ahead and speculating on futures both utopian and dystopian, and thinking about how we might survive them, poetically or otherwise. Suitable for all, from complete beginners to experienced writers, with no pressure to share your writing.
Also on offer are a limited number of 15 minute poetry consultations from the Emergency Poet, a poetic first-aid service prescribing poems as cures. (You can choose to book one of these when you buy your ticket - you will also be able to attend the rest of the first session as described below).
