Revisiting ‘A Serious Man’: creative writing workshops with Anna Morvern

Summer 2025 series of three workshops on the Coen brothers’ 2009 film, 'A Serious Man'. Participants need to have watched the film before attending the workshops but certainly do not need to be film studies graduates, creative writing experts or similar (open to all). There will be encouragement, but no requirement, to share creative writing produced during the workshops.
We will look at the initial “dybbuk” scene and consider the film as an exploration of spiritual awakening and teshuva, with a particular reference to the kabbalistic sefirot of chesed and gevurah.

Facilitator, Anna Morvern, regularly leads creative writing and conversational classes, including writing workshops on the wise stories of Rabbi Nahman of Breslov. She spoke at NAWE’s 2024 conference on creative writing interventions within itinerant teaching and published her autobiography on trauma and mystical relationship in summer 2023.
