RLF: Writers Love Libraries panel with novelist Maeve Clarke, playwright Ashok Patel and children's author Leila Rasheed
Sat 14 Feb 2026 to Sat 14 Feb 2026
This Valentine’s day, join Birmingham-based writers, Maeve Clarke and Ashok Patel, with chair Leila Rasheed, for a panel conversation all about our love for reading and libraries.

We’ll share the times we fell in love with a book, a story or a library. We’ll talk about the part being a passionate reader plays in becoming a writer, and discuss the role reading, books and libraries have played in our lives. Which book is the one we’d marry and grow old with, which one is just a fling, and which one is the ex?

Come along for a fun discussion with other book lovers or to fall back in love with libraries and reading. There will be time for audience Q&A but no pressure to speak if you prefer not to.

This is the first in a series of panel discussions with writers in Birmingham community libraries, presented by the RLF (Royal Literary Fund), a writing and education charity.

Date: Saturday 14 February 2026, 2.30 to 3.30 pm
Location: Hall Green Library,1221 Stratford Road, Birmingham, B28 9AD
Cost: Free - either book at the library or simply come along on the day.
