Summer term of verse: 7 weekly writing workshops & open mic trip
Wed 21 May 2025 to Wed 16 Jul 2025
verse is a queer-led creative writing group designed to improve your craft, overcome writer’s block and nourish your creative wellbeing with award-winning poet and playwright, Toby Campion. For complete beginners & experienced writers looking to re-invigorate their practice.
A series of writing workshops with a small group of friendly peers; each week you'll read and discuss work from leading authors and take part in carefully curated writing exercises designed to develop your writing craft, spark inspiration and get you writing new work. Workshops will often use poetry as a springboard but your writing may be of any medium; memoir, script-writing, prose etc. Open to all, allies very welcome.
Every workshop:
- discover new authors & texts
- improve your writing craft through guided exercises
- develop at least one new piece of your own writing
- utilise writing as a technique for reflection & creative wellness
- get to know a group of friendly peers in a relaxed environment
- take home a packet of texts/homework for optional further reading
- refreshments & two screen-free hours dedicated to yourself
- receive advice & feedback (note this is a generative writing group rather than an intensive feedback workshop)
- 7 in person workshops + optional group trip to Jawdance poetry night's Pride Edition at Richmix
