Literature Wales has announced a brand-new programme of Ty Newydd Writing Centre taster courses to inspire writers over the winter months.
We are looking forward to spring of 2022 when we will open the doors to Ty Newydd and welcome writers to our inspiring house to enjoy a wide range of residential courses, run by expert tutors. The full 2022 course programme will be launched early in January, but in the meantime, these digital courses will ignite your creativity, and give you a taste of what we have to offer at Ty Newydd Writing Centre.
The eight short virtual courses will take place over lunchtimes on Friday afternoons in the new year from February to March 2022 and will offer a whistle-stop tour of various genres and themes in both English and Welsh, to encourage you to start, or continue to write.
We welcome brand new writers who are curious about the craft of creative writing to join these taster courses, and they will also be suitable for writers with some experience already.
The Programme
For poets, Matthew Haigh will explore playful techniques in generating ideas for new poems, and will help inspire an idea for you to shape into a poem after the course. Poet Rosalind Hudis will also look at exploration – and even explosions – with a course looking at the link between poetry and science, and the science of poetry.
For prose writers, new novelist Hammad Rind will share the secrets of how he went about writing, and publishing, his debut novel in 2021; and popular writer and broadcaster Horatio Clare will turn your writing on life, on place and on people into sparkling non-fiction.
In the Welsh-language, writers Osian Owen, Grug Muse, Dyfed Edwards and Marlyn Samuel will take us on various literary journeys in courses looking at the ancient millennia-old craft of the cynghanedd; essays to tackle the climate emergency; the dark underworld of crime thrillers; and in contrast – the popular pool-side page turner novel.
