Ty Newydd: Writing the Rooms of the Poem with Vanessa Lampert & Vicky Morris
Sun 26 May 2024 to Fri 31 May 2024
What are the specifics and devices of language that successfully furnish the room or rooms of a poem? How do we walk into and experience its space – the colours, the light from its windows, and what we might encounter in its dark recesses? As readers, what makes us want to stay?
“Here, in the room of my life the objects keep changing.” Ann Sexton
Through a wide range of stimulating writing exercises, discussions and close reading of a wonderful selection of contemporary poems, we’ll consider these questions and more.
We’ll cover tips on editing, the mechanics, lyricism and music of a poem, and how it can be crafted to reach the heart of a reader.
Be you a fledgling poet, or already well on the wing, leave the week inspired, with budding new drafts and fresh ideas to make your poems fly.
Vanessa Lampert is an acupuncturist and poet from Oxfordshire. Her first full collection Say It With Me will be published by Seren in April 2023. She has an MA in Writing Poetry from Poetry School London and Newcastle University.
