Queer Publishing Day on Friday, 10 October

Three panels featuring top agents, publishers and authors.

Agent Industry Panel

Getting the attention of a literary agent can be hard, but is it harder as a queer writer? We’re joined by a panel of agents who are actively building queer lists. Come with questions for this expert panel.

Publisher Industry Panel
We’ve brought together a panel of commissioning editors to explore the landscape of queer representation in publishing. How is the publishing world responding to rising hostility toward LGBTQ+ groups? And how are editors working to bring more books by marginalized writers into the mainstream?

Getting Your Work Out There
So your book is published, now what? Marketing and publicity executives and authors talk promoting queer books. We’ll cover how social media and the algorithm can work against queer writers, encountering prejudice from the mainstream media and what you can do as an author to get your work in front of the right audiences.

Workshops with writers in mind:

Developing Your Non-Fiction With Abi Fellows and Paula Akpan
In this interactive session, we’ll look at all the components you need for a winning non-fiction proposal, including how to hone in on your idea, how to structure it, and how to sell yourself as the best person to write it. If you’re looking to write non-fiction or have a burning idea but don’t know where to start, this is the workshop for you.

Fun with Form with Travis Alabanza

Travis Alabanza has made a play that was a cooking show and a drag cabaret that one reviewer called a play and another called a circus. They don’t take form lightly, but they also do. This workshop aims to encourage playwrights to think beyond what is a “play” and what “isn’t”, via writing exercises and conversation. Playwriting doesn’t have to be in a script.
