We are delighted to announce the first Sheffield Poetry Festival, which will take place during the weekend on 1 - 3 April 2011, with fringe events being held between 26 March and 6 April - and more than 30 events taking place during the festival.
The festival brings national poets including Simon Armitage and George Szirtes together with local poets in a range of events, reading, discussing, singing, sharing and slamming. There is even a University Poetry Challenge! We hope you will join us in what we hope will be a regular event, to hear great poetry, meet and talk to writers and friends, and raise the profile of Sheffield as a place where poetry lives and breathes.
There are plenty of social opportunities in lots of great venues, with a festival beer - Your Bard - provided by the Sheffield Brewery Company, music, food and art.
Rhyme 'n' Reason, Sheffield's independent bookshop and the bookseller for Off the Shelf, is running a festival bookshop at Bank Street Arts on Saturday and at the Showroom on Sunday, where many of the main events will be held.
Tickets are on sale via the Showroom Box Office - including a whole-Festival ticket for the bargain discount price of £50 (£30 concessionary).
