The Well Review: Nurture Nature: Sylvia Plath - Online Masterclass Writing Series with Special Guests
Tue 12 Sep 2023 to Thu 2 Nov 2023
In this eight-week online creative writing course, we will read both Sylvia Plath's and Ted Hughes work closely and write poetry, prose and experiment with other forms. At the end of the course, there will be an opportunity to share our work. Class offered on Tuesday evenings OR Thursday mornings.
Nurture Nature is an online creative writing series that will focus on the connection, conversation and community that exists between the Writing Self and the Natural World. By attentively and intentionally reading Sylvia Plath, we will create work that nurtures both our internal and external nature.
Plath pushes us repeatedly to see life from the perspective of a tree, a mushroom, a flower. In a letter to her mother in 1956, she wrote: ‘I cannot stop writing poems! … They come from the vocabulary of woods and animals and earth‘. Nurture Nature is an attempt to honour these sacred vocabularies; of Plath, the natural world and of course to invent our own.
