Visuality in Screenwriting with screenwriting legend John Foster. 7pm, 25 July, Salisbury Arts Centre, White Room. £20 (£15 concs) This workshop will examine the screen as a visual medium, visual writing, writing imagery, collage, montage, using sound in screenplays in its various forms of expression.
Who is it for? People embarking on screenwriting and those involved in screenwriting who wish to look at the essentials of the medium in visual storytelling rather than dialogue-driven narratives.
John Foster is Screenwriter-in-Residence at Bournemouth University. He has published fiction in the Guardian and Spectator and written for radio and the theatre. His screen credits include many episodes for TV series such as Z-Cars, Softly Softly, Crown Court, Emmerdale, Juliet Bravo, Rockliffe, The Bill. He has written childrens’ serials, single dramas and dramadocs, including a BAFTA award-winning BBC Omnibus on Raymond Chandler. His screenplay Letters from a Killer was produced in 1998 starring Patrick Swayze and he is contributor to the award-winning crime collection, Mean Time. He has written multi-media dance dramas and his play Little Boy was staged at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2008. He is currently commissioned to write a stage play for a London theatre company.
