Word Factory Masterclass: Short story essentials with David Vann (Online)
Tue 20 Jul 2021 to Tue 20 Jul 2021
We are delighted to welcome internationally acclaimed novelist and short story writer David Vann back to the Word Factory.
In this two-hour seminar, David will focus on style and character in fiction by discussing excerpts from Annie Proulx's The Shipping News, Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian, Marilynne Robinson's Housekeeping, Flannery O'Connor's “Everything That Rises Must Converge,” Vladimir Nabokov's “Signs and Symbols,” and William Faulkner's “Barn Burning.”
This session will be participatory. We will send out reading suggestions in advance. There will be time to reflect on those readings with David in the class and to do some writing.
Published in 23 languages, David Vann’s internationally-bestselling books have won 14 prizes, including best foreign novel in France and Spain, and appeared on 83 Best Books of the Year lists in a dozen countries. He has been featured in a hundred international literary festivals and had book tours in 32 countries. He is currently a Professor at the University of Warwick.
