Word Factory: One-to-one Beginners Advice Sessions with Susmita Bhattacharya
Mon 1 Mar 2021 to Sat 31 Jul 2021
We are delighted to welcome leading novelist and short story writer Susmita Bhattacharya as our Spring/Summer 2021 Word Factory Writer in Residence. During her residency, running from March to July 2021, Susmita will be offering four exclusive half-hour one-on-one advice sessions aimed at helping writers at the beginning of their writing journey.

Within the session, she will critique a story sample of around 500 words and also offer time to answer any questions you may have related to the business of writing, from practical considerations such as dealing with agents to pitching, to the technical writing queries.

Once your place has been secured, we will contact you to find out what you are hoping for from the session and to put you in touch with Susmita for your online mentoring session. We will add new sessions in the season if they become available.

Susmita Bhattacharya is an award-winning author and creative writing lecturer. Her debut novel, The Normal State of Mind (Parthian, 2015, BEE Books, India 2016) was long-listed for the Word to Screen Prize at the Mumbai Film Festival, 2018 and her short story collection, Table Manners (Dahlia Publishing, 2018) won the Saboteur Award for Best Short Story Collection (2019) and was a finalist for the Hall & Woodhouse DLF Prize, 2019.
