Word Factory Seminar: Jon McGregor and Chris Power on Alice Munro
Wed 14 Apr 2021 to Wed 14 Apr 2021
We are delighted to invite you to an evening with two of the UK's most influential short story writers as Jon McGregor and Chris Power, dedicated readers as well as writers of short stories, share their responses to ‘Chance’, by one of the greatest practitioners of the form: Alice Munro.

Part conversation, part interview, part contest – perhaps even with some diagrams thrown in - this promises to be a fascinating evening of discovery, shared enthusiasm and (friendly) disagreement.

Jon McGregor is the author of five novels and two story collections. He is the winner of the IMPAC Dublin Literature Prize, Betty Trask Prize, and Somerset Maugham Award, and has been longlisted for the Man Booker Prize three times. He is Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Nottingham, where he edits The Letters Page, a literary journal in letters. He was born in Bermuda in 1976, grew up in Norfolk, and now lives in Nottingham.

Chris Power is the author of the short story collection Mothers, which was longlisted for the Rathbones Folio Prize and shortlisted for the Edge Hill Short Story Prize. His long-running column, A Brief Survey of the Short Story, appears in the Guardian, and he has writen for the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and the New Statesman. He is a former Word Factory Apprentice Award mentor.

Alice Munro won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2013. You can read her story Chance here
