Write What You Know: Setting & Place
Tue 31 Mar 2026 to Tue 31 Mar 2026
Practise 'write what you know' techniques using memories, observation and generative writing exercises to explore different ways of creating vivid, realistic settings (even if they’re entirely fantastical!).

Bring your world-building to life by writing what you know…

“Write What You Know” is all about drawing from your own authentic experiences to create nuanced, multi-layered details in your writing.

The Setting & Place Workshop will guide you through a range of 'write what you know' techniques, using memories, observation and writing exercises to explore different ways of creating vivid, realistic settings (even if they’re entirely fantastical).

Learn how to borrow elements from the familiar and hone your powers of observation to bridge the gap between places you’ve never been, crafting unique details and tangible atmospheres.

By the end of the session you’ll have new tools to use in your writing, and new ways of gathering ideas from the world around you. Use this workshop to elevate a setting in your work-in-progress or make up some brand new story locations to explore later…

Suitable for all writers at all stages — whether you’re writing short fiction, a novel, a script, or just looking to add an extra layer to your setting descriptions.

Let's build worlds together!
