Writing Ambassadors Training Program 2017
Thu 23 Feb 2017 to Sat 10 Jun 2017
Paper Nation’s Writing Ambassadors Training Programme 2017 is designed to equip you with the skills and expertise to design and deliver your own innovative and sustainable creative writing education projects

The programme is made up of two core modules:

  1. The Creative Writing Workshop (23 February to 8 April 2017)
  2. Leading an Creative Arts and Writing Project (27 April to 10 June 2017)

Alongside weekly workshops and one-day labs, participants will develop their own practical-based research projects in schools. Support for this assignment will come in the form of mentoring and focused sessions on leadership skills, project initiation and management, publishing skills, pastoral care and the cultural economy.

In addition, participants will receive training to deliver the Creative Writing Award, piloting a new accredited national qualification for children and young people currently in development.  As part of this process you will also complete the Arts Award adviser training.

The Writing Ambassadors Training Programme 2017 has been jointly designed by Bath Spa University’s Department of Creative Writing and the Institute for Education in collaboration with Bath Festivals and NAWE and is led by Paper Nations, an Arts Council England funded initiative which brings together arts organisations, universities, schools, creative writers and teachers to inspire a creative nation of young writers. By building connections and sharing best practice between writers, arts organisations, educational institutions and communities, this programme of professional development is intended to raise the status of and create sustainable structures for creative writing for children and young people.

The programme is aimed at both:

  • writers interested in building skills as teachers and engaging young people, particularly from disadvantaged backgrounds, with creative writing
  • teachers and community arts workers who write creatively and want to develop their own writing craft and practice.

There are just 16 places on the Writing Ambassadors Training Programme 2017.  Sessions will take place at Bath Spa University’s Newton Park Campus on Thursday evenings from 5- 8pm during the school term, with four additional study days that can be followed on Fridays or Saturdays.
