Karen Campbell, award-winning Scottish author of “The Sound of the Hours”, is running a Creative Writing course and Writers’ Retreat from 9th to 16th May 2021 in Barga - Italy's most Scottish town - in Tuscany. (This course is postponed from Autumn 2020 due to Covid-19.)
Taking inspiration from the stunning scenery and rich history of this little-known part of Tuscany, and using structured workshops, exercises, free writing time, ‘working’ walks and one-to-one tutorials, the course will look at how you build a story.
Whether you're seeking space and time to work on an existing project, or guidance and tips to help bring pen to page for the very first time, this course is designed to stimulate all types of prose writing - from short stories to novels.
We’ll cover beginnings, endings, place, plot, character, and how to pull the strands of your work into a cohesive whole, including the all-important editing process – giving you the tools to take your writing forwards.
Karen Campbell is a Scottish writer and graduate of Glasgow University’s Creative Writing Masters course. Before turning to writing, Karen was a police officer in Glasgow, and her first four novels focus on the people behind the uniform. Karen is an experienced tutor and has taught at Moniack Mhor and in schools and writing groups across Scotland.
The retreat is being run in conjunction with Casa Fontana who are offering a 5 night course with tuition, and half board accommodation in mediaeval Barga, with a 7 night option to include extra support and mentoring by Karen.
