See your own world in a grain of sand and take home your notebooks and journals full of writing gifts and treasures
Writing Retreat in the Sahara Desert, Café Tissardmine, Morocco
Friday 8th – Sunday 17th February 2013
Workshop Leader: Monica Suswin
If you have longed to go to the desert, or you would like to experience its slowed down pace of living then this retreat will give you just that with a slower daily rhythm and structure alongside other like-minded people. If you enjoy quiet reflective time for personal exploration, uncovering insights, nuances and layers of meaning (which will underpin your writing whatever your style), then this workshop aims to meet that need. There will be regular group sessions and free time for your own writing in a landscape bound to stimulate your imagination and creative flow.
Café Tissardmine is run by English-born Australian artist Karen Hadfield and her Berber business partner, Yousef Bouchedor. She is helped in the house, the compound and kitchen by local berber staff, many of them from Yousef’s family.
I met Karen in March 2012 when I stayed for a week’s writing, not knowing she was planning a series of writing retreats for 2012 and 2013. I loved the place so much that I am very happy and excited to return to run my own writing retreat, particularly the camel trek to the sand dunes of Erg Chebbi (you may go in the 4WD if that doesn’t appeal).
Monica Suswin is a published writer in the field of creative therapeutic writing. Her background is in humanistic psychotherapy and journalism. She holds an M.A. in Creative Writing (Sussex University).
