ARISE Riverfly Writers Call Out
Deadline: Tue 28 Jul 2026
Estuary Festival is seeking four writers to work alongside river monitoring initiatives in four locations Minster (Kent), Mayland (Essex), Coldfairgreen (Suffolk) and Ingoldisthorpe (Norfolk) over the course of a year.
Embedded within the Riverfly Monitoring Initiative (a citizen science effort tracking freshwater health) each writer will follow the activities of local volunteers to inform a creative response to the biodiversity and environmental stories uncovered.
The final written works produced by each writer will be published together in a beautifully designed digital publication to be published by Estuary Festival and shared widely.
These commissions will form part ARISE, a major UK research project on coastal resilience. The programme combines environmental and social science, community engagement and the arts to bring new perspectives to the challenges facing coastal landscapes.
We are seeking writers that can travel easily to the locations for the training days as we have a modest travel budget.
