Artists Make Space: Tara Theatre and Britto Arts Trust are jointly seeking artists from the UK and Bangladesh to make connections and co-create new works.
Artforms include Theatre, Live Art, Dance, Music, Sound art, Zines, Performance spoken word, Poetry, Novels, Graphic novels, Text-based art, Film, Photography, Painting, Drawing, Printmaking, Sculpture/Installation, Fashion, Weaving and textiles, Ceramic/Metal work, Design, Public art.
There are seven commissions of £6000 available. 14 artists (7 UK & 7 BD) will be selected and matched together to co-create new works. The matchmaking will happen after the selection process has been completed, and it will be based on aligning the topic of exploration for the commission. The resultant work will be presented digitally and across different cities in the UK and Bangladesh in spring and summer 2022.
The commission is open to early career artists (1-5 years of experience) based anywhere in the UK and Bangladesh. Through the support of the Transforming Narratives programme, two of the selected UK artists should be based in Birmingham.
The commission will be awarded to young/emerging artists as an opportunity for them to develop their skills and practice, to enable both a national and international platform for their work and to build connections with peers in both Bangladesh and the UK.
The UK artists may include artists of Bangladeshi heritage as well as those without any prior connection to Bangladesh.
