Northumbria University is seeking to appoint a permanent Lecturer (grade 6) or Assistant Professor (grade 7) to join the Creative Writing team in the Department of Humanities.
We are looking for a candidate with a strong portfolio of practice research and teaching expertise in prose, poetry, and/or script. An ability to teach and carry out research in more than one area would be an advantage.
The Department of Humanities brings together 80 academic staff and more than 800 students in American Studies, History, English Literature, English Language, Creative Writing and Music. Our Literature and Creative Writing undergraduate degree, Creative Writing MA, and PhD programme in Creative Writing are well established.
The postholder will be expected to contribute to the delivery of these programmes, and to the development of our partnership with New Writing North, with a particular emphasis on practice research and embedding partnership working in research and teaching.
You will make a strong contribution to our submission to future Research Excellence Frameworks. You will hold a PhD or equivalent, and will already be developing a publication track record of exceptional quality, with clear plans to develop funding applications. You will be able to demonstrate extensive, high quality teaching experience as well as flexibility and versatility.
We particularly welcome applications from candidates from underrepresented communities in this area, including those from minority ethnic backgrounds.
