Submissions are invited to Biggar Poetry Garden, a piece of public art which combines poetry that contains botanical reference with the plant to which it refers.
The concept is inspired by Hugh MacDiarmid’s epic poem, A Drunk Man Looks at the Thistle. MacDiarmid made his home in Brownsbank Cottage, just outside Biggar, from 1953 until his death in 1978.
The Garden is located in the High Street of the Scottish market town of Biggar, and is maintained by Biggar Museums Trust Brownsbank Committee, Biggar Public Art Group and South Lanarkshire Council.
The Garden also incorporates display cases in which poets can exhibit their work, with exhibitions being refreshed quarterly.
Submissions are welcome from poets anywhere in the world who would like to publish work – in any style, on any subject – on the Garden’s poetry boards and accompanying website:
