Call for applications: Visible Communities Residencies 2027
Deadline: Mon 21 Sep 2026
The National Centre for Writing are seeking UK-based literary translators to join our 2027 Visible Communities programme as residents (virtual and Norwich-based).
The National Centre for Writing would like to appoint the next cohort of translators in virtual residence for the 2027 Visible Communities programme. We are also offering a short residency in Norwich as part of the programme.
The Visible Communities residencies are open to UK-based Black, Asian and Ethnically Diverse literary translators working from any language into English.
We are particularly interested in collaborating with literary translators and writers who translate from or have some knowledge of the diaspora and heritage language communities within the UK.
The virtual residencies will run simultaneously for four months, from February to May 2027. We will pay a fee of £3,000 per residency.
The dates for the 2027 two-week residencies in Norwich are Monday 18 January to Friday 29 January 2027. The National Centre for Writing will cover the cost of travel within the UK to Norwich for the selected translators and a stipend of £350 per week.
