Call for submissions for Haddaway & Write 2026

In partnership with Gala Durham and funded by Arts Council England, Haddaway & Write will support up to six North East writers to develop original short plays, with dramaturgical support from award-winning writer, Sarah Tarbit.
The selected writers will receive £1000, take part in bespoke script development sessions and have their plays professionally performed at community and theatre venues across the region.
We are accepting submissions from North East writers at all levels of experience who will benefit from script development support and career mentoring. We actively encourage applications from traditionally excluded and marginalised backgrounds.
Applicants must be:
Aged 16+
Based in the North East of England (County Durham, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear and Tees Valley)
Prepared to take on board development feedback and redraft scripts between sessions
Available for the following dates:
2nd April 2026 for an in-person event
Three script development sessions (am or pm) in-person or online within the following:
16th – 20th Feb 2026 / 16th – 19th March 2026 / 7th – 8th April 2026
This year we are particularly interested in light drama and comedy scripts (but not sketches).
