The Children’s Laureate Wales is a new post and will be delivered by Literature Wales. The Laureate will engage and inspire children through literature as well as being a national ambassador for Wales. The post is for two years and is open to Wales-based writers.
On 29 May 2019 we launched our new Strategic Plan (2019-2022) which outlines Children and Young people as one of our main priorities.
The Laureate will focus on making literature fun for children of all backgrounds and abilities, and will work alongside the Welsh-language children’s laureate, Bardd Plant Cymru. Primarily working with children and young people between the ages of 5-13, the Children’s Laureate Wales will encourage creativity and self-expression, and be advocates for representation, equality and the well-being of the future generations of Wales.
We welcome expressions of interest from writers across all literary forms, from poetry to prose, graphic novels and spoken word. We would consider appointing an early career writer to this role and may, with the right person, consider potential over experience.
In this case, the role provides a platform to develop their skills in delivering creative activity in participatory settings during their term as Laureate, as well as enhancing their artistic repertoire and professional reputation.
