The Breakthrough Scholarship for LGBTQIA+ Horror Writers will award one talented LGBTQIA+ writer a free place on our new nine-week Writing Horror Fiction course with award-winning author Andrew Michael Hurley running from 13 April to 12 June 2026.
This scholarship is part of the Breakthrough Writers’ Programme, our outreach programme which offers opportunities to under-represented writers. We aim to promote diversity in our student groups and to enable talented writers to join our courses who we might not otherwise have heard from.
If you have the desire to write, a great idea for a work of horror fiction and a compelling voice – and if you fulfil our eligibility criteria, this scholarship opportunity is for you.
Your submission does not necessarily have to be about LGBTQIA+ experiences, although we are particularly interested in stories with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer characters or themes.
Eligibility
This scholarship is open to anyone over the age of 18, who identifies as LGBTQIA+ and fulfils our low-income eligibility criteria.
