The DHA Open Day is back this November 2023, inviting submissions from UK-based under-represented writers of literary and commercial fiction for adults. Entries must be in English.
Open to applications from LGBTQIA+ writers, writers of colour, writers from working-class backgrounds, writers from ethnic, cultural and religious minorities, writers with a disability and neurodivergent writers.
Launched in 2018, the DHA Open Days aim to demystify the industry, and support writers from UK-based under-represented backgrounds to gain valuable industry knowledge and develop their work.
Our 2023 Open Day will build on the success of previous years, inviting ten exceptional writers to take part in a day of free in-person workshops and seminars from authors, editors, and leading industry professionals, alongside an in-depth 1-1 feedback session on their submitted work with a DHA agent.
To submit you will need:
The first 5,000 words of your novel in progress
A one-page synopsis
A completed application form
(We are not aiming to advise authors writing poetry, plays, non-fiction or screenwriting at this event.)
Online Introduction Session
We are holding an Online Introduction Session on Thursday 27th July 2023 that is open to anyone thinking of applying. The session will offer advice on how to put together a submission, top tips on approaching an agent, things to avoid when querying, and what the agency is looking for.
