Emerging Poet in Residence - London and Plymouth, Boat Poets
Deadline: Fri 29 Jul 2022
Boat Poets is a talent development project for poets and spoken word artists aged 18 - 25 to spend time on their local waterway. We have four residency opportunities available for emerging poets and spoken word artists - two for those resident n London and two for those living in Plymouth.

London
Residency 1
- In partnership with Thames Festival Trust you will explore the River Thames with the help of their Totally Thames Festival programme. Responding to the themes of Education, Heritage and the Arts the team at the Trust will support you to access events, boats and areas of the river and riverside that are of interest to you. When applying for this residency please include THAMES in the email subject line.

Residency 2 - In partnership with Studio 3 Arts and Spoken Not Stirred you will explore the local Thames riverside area in Barking and Dagenham. This opportunity is for a poet who is resident in the borough of Barking and Dagenham specifically.

Fee £550
Residency dates - 01/09/22 - 30/09/22 (5 full flexible days to be used over this period)

Plymouth
Two residencies are available for emerging Plymouth based poets and spoken word artists to work alongside each other in exploring the Language of Rewilding for Plymouth and its people. These residencies are in partnership with Green Minds, a Plymouth City Council led project, funded by the European Regional Development Fund, Urban Innovative Actions. Resident artists will explore Plymouth’s rivers, harbours and waterfronts.

Fee £550
Residency dates - 01/09/22 - 30/09/22 (5 full flexible days to be used over this period)

Each resident artist will be supported to create new work inspired by their waterway, whilst being given paid time to explore and work in new ways. During the residency, artists will have the opportunity to engage in professional development workshops and mentoring sessions. There will also be supported opportunities to develop new writing into a live performance and/or short film.

We particularly encourage applications from people from the global majority, who are LGBTQIA+, disabled and/or from working class or low socio-economic backgrounds. We encourage applications from poets who identify as disabled and have funding to support artists with access needs, however if you would like to use access to work this is also fine.
