Fox and Star Books, a new independent publishing house founded by acclaimed poet Carrie Etter, dedicated to amplifying diverse voices in poetry and fiction, announces its inaugural call for poetry chapbook submissions opening June 15, 2025. The press commits to publishing at least 50% of its titles by global majority or otherwise marginalized authors.
The month-long submissions window (June 15 – July 15, 2025) seeks debut poetry collections from UK-resident poets who have not previously published a pamphlet, chapbook, or full-length collection. Two chapbooks will be selected for publication, with at least one guaranteed to be from a global majority or disadvantaged poet.
Open to UK residents who have not previously published a poetry pamphlet/chapbook or full-length collection.
Initial submission: Three poems or up to five pages, plus one-page cover letter

The submission process is designed for accessibility, with a £10 entry fee and twenty free entries available to low-income authors on a first-come basis. Selected poets will advance to a longlist stage, with winners receiving publication as limited edition chapbooks, ten free copies, and a celebratory launch in Bristol.
Fox and Star Books draws inspiration from established poets including Liz Berry, Natalie Diaz, Forrest Gander, Terrance Hayes, Kei Miller, Claudia Rankine, Safiya Sinclair, and Tracy K. Smith, reflecting the press’s commitment to both artistic excellence and diverse perspectives.
A call for fiction chapbook submissions will follow in 2026, expanding the press’s mission across genres.
