Globe Soup: 2022 Paranormal Flash Fiction Challenge

It's time for another Globe Soup writing challenge! For this short story challenge, all participants will be randomly assigned a paranormal entity. As soon as you receive your assignment, you'll have until the closing time to write and submit a short story of no more than 1,000 words. Prize: £1,000.
All we ask is that your story has your assigned paranormal entity woven into the plot somehow. How much prominence you give to the assigned paranormal entity is up to you, but it must be part of the plot. You cannot simply mention it.
Paranormal fiction is not necessarily horror, nor is it just for teenagers and Twilight fans. Some of the greatest writers in the world have written works that could be considered paranormal fiction. It can be written in any style or tone. It can be horrifying, humorous, romantic, fantastical, whimsical, or just literary.
The paranormal entities chosen for this year’s challenge are:
1. Ghosts
2. Mermaids (Merpeople)
3. Witches/Warlocks
4. Aliens
5. Werewolves
If you choose to participate in the challenge, you'll be randomly assigned one of these paranormal entities.
General Entry: £5 for one story
