The Gordon Burn Prize is open now to fiction and non-fiction published between 1 December 2023 and 30 November 2024 that pushes boundaries, crosses genres, and challenges expectations, following in the footsteps of writer Gordon Burn.
Judged by Terri White, Carl Anka, Angela Hui, Sarah Phelps and David Whitehouse, and supported by Newcastle University, the winner will receive £10,000 and the chance to undertake a writing retreat at Gordon Burn’s cottage in Berwickshire.
The prize is open to submissions?of work?written in?English?by writers of any nationality or descent?based anywhere in the world. Authors, publishers and agents can submit entries.
Founded in 2012 by New Writing North, Faber & Faber and the Gordon Burn Trust, the Gordon Burn Prize has built a reputation for identifying and celebrating brilliant books that often find their readers outside the mainstream.
The 2025 prize will be awarded in March 2025 in Gordon Burn’s home city, Newcastle upon Tyne, with support from Newcastle University and NCLA, the Newcastle Centre for the Literary Arts.
