Edinburgh University’s Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and the Traverse Theatre announce their continued partnership in a Creative Fellowship
IASH and the Traverse will commission a play on or inspired by any aspect of the agreed topic, in line with an aspect of the Institute’s current interests. The stipend will be £10,000 and the recipient will have a private office and full Fellowship at IASH, and contribute to the Institute’s events, including giving at least one work-in-progress seminar during the tenure of the Fellowship. The recipient must be Edinburgh-based for the duration of the residency, as their regular presence at IASH is expected.
We propose ‘Difficult Dialogues’ as the topic for 2012.
The tenure of the Fellowship will be between 3 and 9 months, by agreement, with the intention that the playwright will submit a complete play to the Traverse at the end of 2012. During the period of the fellowship the playwright will have access to dramaturgical support from the Traverse’s Literary Department and we hope would also play some part in the artistic life of the theatre.
IASH
The Institute for Advanced Studies was founded in 1970 to promote enquiry of the highest standards in the Humanities, broadly conceived, and is both nationally and internationally renowned. It is housed in a secluded 18th Century courtyard close to the University Library and is convenient for central Edinburgh. About 25 scholars can be accommodated at any one time.
All Fellows are offered a personal office and administrative support. The Institute has a permanent staff of three and is part of the College of Humanities and Social Science at the University of Edinburgh. Visiting Research Fellowships of 2-6 months are awarded to scholars from around the world who work on a wide range of disciplines; Postdoctoral Bursaries are also offered to scholars at the early stages of their careers. Over 800 Fellows from more than 60 countries have held Institute Fellowships. In addition to its own Visiting Research Fellowships, the Institute hosts a number of named Fellowships. The flexible Fellowships programme creates an eclectic and lively mix of scholars with research interests covering the entire spectrum of the Humanities. The Creative Fellow would join this community and be expected to play a full part in the activities of the Institute.
The Institute organises and hosts a programme of events and seminars around a number of wide-ranging Research Themes. These are open to all within the University and outside. For further information about the themes and all IASH activities.
