We are looking to commission 10-12 writers to create a short story of between 3000-5000 words about or connected to Lancashire that can be read or listened to in one sitting.
This is an exciting Lancashire-wide programme where a unique collection of 10-12 amazing stories will be brought together into one special book. The stories will reflect the diverse voice and experience of the selected individual authors, which together will form a connection to Lancashire in a variety of ways.
The book will be launched as part of Lancashire Day 2022, with around 10,000 copies all being gifted via libraries and partner organisations. The stories will also be available digitally, translated into other languages and available in other formats.
This project is being led by Lancashire County Council libraries in partnership with the unitary authorities of Blackburn with Darwen and Blackpool, with funding through the support of Arts Council England. We will be working with UCLAN Publishing and a team of editors and a designer to result in a high-quality anthology.
There will be many opportunities for Lancashire communities to be involved through a programme of cultural activities so the stories can reach and be enjoyed by everyone, and this will run until November 2023.
Author commissions - A fee of £1,700 will be paid to each selected author.
