Lead Artist - Stories from the Neighbourhood, Hopscotch Asian Women's Centre
Deadline: Mon 9 Nov 2020
We are seeking to commission an artist to lead Stories from the Neighbourhood, an intergenerational project that will highlight the personal journeys of older and younger Bangladeshi women living in the Euston area, through stories about their neighbourhood which are significant to them.

In Summer 2020, Hopscotch Asian Women’s Centre successfully applied to HS2’s Euston Creates Engagement Project. Euston Creates will support high quality artistic projects that inspire the existing community, spark interest from new audiences and are led by the ideas and interests of local young people in collaboration with artists.

Stories from the neighbourhood:

Is Euston’s story told by the people who live there? This theme aims to platform stories that might have been overlooked in the past because of other dominant narratives. We welcome projects that enable young people to articulate their point of view and their lived experiences. Art forms could include radio shows, food projects, photography and film projects.

We are seeking to commission an artist to lead the project, to involve participants and provide tailored support. In particular, we seek applications from artists who understand the barriers faced by BAME women from hard to reach communities.

The creative projects can be physical, digital, or performance /event based, and must include the collaboration of Hopscotch with a commissioned artist. They must include an output that can be shared more widely. They could take on a range of different forms including, but not limited to, the following:

i) Visual Arts – socially engaged art projects, drawing, painting, film making, photography, printmaking, architecture, ceramics, design, sculpting, cooking and gardening projects.
ii) Literature – writing, poetry, a cookbook and self-publishing (i.e. a zine) projects.
iii) Performing arts – music, radio shows and theatre etc.

Project dates: December 2020 to June 2021

Artist Fee: up to 28 days @ £227.35 per day 1 or 23 days @ £281.48 per day depending on experience (total maximum fee of £6,500)
Hours of Work: 1 day p/w, flexible working days and hours
Additional budget: £1,500 (includes materials for activities and final output)
