We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Creative Writing (prose) to teach on our English Literature with Creative Writing programme with a specialism in novel writing and preferred experience in either non-fiction writing and/or screenwriting.
The School of Literature and Languages is a vibrant and innovative School with an international research and teaching portfolio in English Literature and Creative Writing, Linguistics, Translation and Interpreting Studies, Modern Languages, Film and Intercultural Communication. We are looking for exceptional academics whose ambitions in both research and teaching complement those of our forward-looking School.
The successful candidate will be required to teach at undergraduate level, primarily in areas related to their specialism, as well as contributing to our two MA programmes in English Literature and Creative Writing; take on administrative roles and PhD supervision, as appropriate; and play a leading role in the organisation of the annual Surrey New Writers Festival.
The English and Creative Writing team at Surrey is dynamic, inclusive, and innovative, and has strong teaching and research specialisms in areas such as creative writing, innovative writing, critical theory, world literature, nineteenth-century literature and culture, cinema studies, modernism and postmodernism.
We are looking for candidates with a completed PhD in Creative Writing. The successful candidate will have begun to develop a strong publication record, appropriate for their career-stage, have clear research plans for the next 3-5 years, and have the ability to contribute to the School’s broad research and teaching strengths in creative writing, including to our impact and public engagement activities.
